Geo, Environmental and Building Data Management

The modern information society requires current, exact and consistent data with space and time reference. Without these extraordinarily expensive anthropogenic resources, the lasting use and development of our marketing area and living space are impossible.

Multi-functional and multimedial documented geo -, environmental and building data are the essential basis of the analysis, modelling, simulation, visualising and control of natural and civilising processes. Regarding this, the regional and national point of view was long ago detached of the global provision of information and use. In the same way consciousness grows that the anticipate effect of planning and controlling metrology can hardly be obtained by local interferences. This reorientation requires an integral, international co-ordinated, systematic approach as well as the development of data structures for meta data, interoperable systems and procedures for the description of metric-topological models.

Such information systems do not only serve as data bases for diverse applications (e.g. city and regional planning, landscape architecture, environmental monitoring, water economy, telecommunications, Facility management, building preservation and climate studies), but also as an interface for method development and modelling of spatial and organisational connections. Apart from the harmonisation and selection of data, the user-friendly presentations, the networking with other volumes of data and the intuitively operated editing , analysing and visualising tools also require further efforts of development.
