Monitoring and modelling
The burden on natural systems and built infrastructure requires a deeper understanding of the interaction between humans and the environment. Both the security and the well-being of people and the development of society and economy depend on the proper and reliable functioning of these systems and their integration into the environment
This requires the continuous and complete recording (monitoring) of resources and systems, as well as their characteristics, quantities and changes in real time. Planned changes to systems are also explored using simulations and virtual models as early as at the planning stage, in order to meet these requirements.
Innovative modelling methods and management strategies for natural and built systems are based on findings made possible by the use of innovative sensors, control and instrumentation technology, as well as by very rapid development in information technology (ICT) in general.
