As pioneers through the new Gotthard Tunnel

The technical and administrative staff of the department (TAP D-BAUG) is one of the pioneers to travel with the special train Gottardino through the new NEAT tunnel.

A trip to the south via the Gotthard mountain route to Biasca and back to Flüelen through the new Gotthard base tunnel became a reality thanks to both the initiative of the D-BAUG representatives and the generous funding from the departmental management.

Nearly half of the department's technical and administrative staff participated in this half-day excursion on October 27, 2016, and spent a very interesting afternoon. While the trip to Biasca evoked many childhood and youth memories, the ride on the Gottardino special train in the new tunnel was the first time for everyone.

We pioneers had the opportunity to leave the train at the multifunctional station Sedrun and make ourselves an idea about the evacuation possibilities in case of an emergency.

The journey by train also provided an opportunity to get to know the other employees in the department, in addition to the interest in engineering and infrastructure, and to get into longer conversations that are often to short in the normal working day.
