Student exchange

For information about pre-application, please see German webpage.

Students who are eager to get involved have the opportunity to complete one or two semesters at a host university. The following prerequisites must be met:

  • 5th semester: first-year examinations and examination block 1 passed, all of the performance assessments pertaining to examination block 2 undertaken.
  • 6th semester: first-year examinations and examination blocks 1 and 2 passed.
  • Average grade of 4.5 in the first-year examinations. Students who have not achieved this grade can still qualify for the exchange under certain conditions. You can find detailed information about this here.

The credits earned at the host university can be credited to the study programme at ETH Zurich, provided that recognition of the achievements in the form of a written curriculum ("Form for the recognition of courses") has been agreed before commencing the exchange programme. This curriculum should be drawn up in such a way that it replaces all or most of the teaching units missed at ETH Zurich. The study programme at the host university must therefore include approximately 2/3 of the lectures in Geospatial Engineering at ETH in the same period (at least 20 ECTS credits per semester). The total duration of the study programme should not be extended by an exchange programme.

Depending on the host university, it may be difficult to find equivalent courses. Careful clarification is essential.

It is up to the students to compile their curriculum and to organise their subjects. This includes arranging the recognition of individual courses with the professors concerned or with the student exchange advisor and contacting the person responsible at the host university. The administrative part of the organisation, e.g. arranging enrolment, organising a room, residence permit, student exchange scholarships and support during the stay is supported by the student exchange office.

You will find the form for the recognition of courses below. This form must be handed in to the student exchange advisor of the Geospatial Engineering degree programme, duly signed, prior to departure.

Exchange students will remain enrolled at ETH Zurich and continue to pay tuition fees and compulsory contributions. They are exempt from paying tuition fees at the host university.

Students who are interested in a student exchange programme should contact the ETH Zurich student exchange office (please note the registration deadlines) and the student exchange advisor of the programme in good time. Permission for a student exchange programme is granted by the director of studies.
