Engineering Geodesy

Students acquire expertise and hands-on experience in designing, implementing and testing measurement systems, data acquisition processes and data analysis. Specialising in Engineering Geodesy is especially attractive for students who are interested in

• geo-sensors and measurement technology (from simple sensors like inclinometers to high-end systems like radar or multi-sensor systems)

• practical work, occasionally including field work and outdoor measurements

• applying programming and mathematical modelling to data analysis (e.g. for parameter estimation, shape modelling, or deformation analysis)

• interdisciplinary applications in fields such as construction (e.g., machine guidance, monitoring of bridges), natural hazards and changing environment (e.g., land slides, glaciers), archaeology and cultural heritage (prospection, virtual tourism), etc.

A programme of study in Engineering Geodesy enables students to work across a range of sectors, including surveying and engineering consultancy, industrial R&D, construction, energy, transport and telecom industries, public administration and land management
