Cartography

In the courses, existing cartographic knowledge is further developed and transferred to new representation media and areas of application. The teaching of new cartographic information and interaction methods, both in 2D and 3D, is an important aspect. In semester exercises and individual term papers, user-friendly functions and tools for map design and analysis as well as new types of tools for terrain representation are used. In addition, students are taught how cartographic methods can be effectively applied in spatial visualisations using GIS or graphics programmes.

The acquired know-how enables students to communicate spatial distributions and processes visually in a targeted and user-oriented manner. These skills are indispensable in all scientific disciplines and administrative areas as well as in the private sector.
